Regular Prophylaxis & Routine Examinations
These important appointments allow Dr. Hudimac and his hygienist to monitor your oral health and clean under your gum line where the toothbrush cannot reach. They also help promote healthy gums and teeth by removing the plaque that causes decay and gum infection, and educating you about prevention.
This service is recommended by the American Dental Association at regular 6 month intervals to help ensure your oral health.
Scaling in the Presence of Inflammation
Scaling with inflammation is a relatively newer coded procedure from the American Dental Association. This procedure is for patients with generalized moderate to severe gingival inflammation but not bone loss associated with gum disease. This is often used for patients who have not had hygiene therapy for many years, or have a lot of inflammation and bleeding present. This procedure is considered therapeutic, not preventative, and insurances classify this as a periodontal procedure so there may be a copay or co-insurance involved.
Fluoride treatments
Fluoride applications help to strengthen the enamel on your teeth, making it more difficult for cavities to begin. Everyone should be receiving fluoride treatments every six months in order to provide the most resistance to future decay and tooth sensitivity.
Sealants
Sealants protect the chewing surfaces of the back teeth from cavities and should be applied as a child’s permanent teeth erupt. Though typically placed on children’s teeth, adult molars can also be sealed, provided a tooth does not show evidence of decay. The sealants that we have placed have been highly successful in preventing decay.
Oral Health Education
Our hygienist works with you to help you learn the proper ways to floss, brush, and take care of your oral health the other 363 days of the year. She will offer suggestions for different types of toothpaste, mouth rinses, toothbrushes, etc. to give you all the tools necessary to maintain a healthy mouth throughout the year, reducing your chances for cavities, gum disease, and other issues. Investment in the right tools for your preventative needs will help you save money on the restorative ones later!
